On November 12, guitarist Sune Pors releases his debut album Convalescence. The album is a daring effort to mix strings and electric guitar. The music oozes a Nordic atmosphere, while at the same time utilizing the strengths of both the amplified world of electric guitar and acoustic string quartet. Sune Pors remains true to his Scandinavian roots, while drawing inspiration from artists such as Bill Frissell, Jakob Bro and more.
After working in a wide range of genres, he approaches composition and playing style in an intuitive way, freed from the stylistic baggage that comes with a string quartet or an electric guitar. While he has mainly performed as a sidekick and member of various bands for many years, his own music becomes an increasingly important part of his musical life, seeking to channel his love for all kinds of contrasting musical colors and idioms mixed together in an organic and personal way.
The album is a collaboration with the Danish / Norwegian / Spanish Admeta String Quartet. The four young women in this quartet are remarkable in their openness and the natural lightness with which they switch between classical repertoire, new music and collaborate with artists from other genres. They represent a new generation of classically trained musicians who are far less bound by conventions than previous generations, and they exude a happy, relaxed and unpretentious presence in concert.
